The National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nelson Mandela Bay has wished mayor Eugene Johnson and her mayoral committee members the best of luck.

The new council heads were elected on Monday.

Nafcoc Bay president  Mpilontle Ndlaleni said Johnson’s voting in as mayor came at a time when the metro was faced with various socioeconomic challenges.

The challenges, he said, varied from low investor confidence to the city’s high unemployment rate.

“Many years of instability at City Hall has led us to where we are today.

“We call on City Hall, under the capable leadership of Johnson, to unite and bring the stability.”

Ndlaleni said Nafcoc believed the new leadership had the right mix of experienced leaders in its ranks.

“As the leading economic hub in the province, the mayor should drive the municipality to incorporate smart city technologies in its operations to address urban challenges as it delivers services to the people of the Bay,” he said.
